Frequently Asked Questions about Travel insurance

*I am a travel professional, not a licensed insurance agent. I can provide general information and quotes, but specific coverage questions should be directed to the insurance provider's customer service team.

We highly recommend it. While we all plan for the perfect trip, life happens. Travel insurance isn't just about "lost luggage"—it’s about protecting your financial investment if you have to cancel for a covered reason, and protecting your health while abroad.

  • Did you know? Many U.S. health insurance plans (including Medicare) provide little to no coverage outside the country. Travel insurance can cover emergency medical visits and even emergency evacuations.

The best time is at the time of your initial deposit. Buying early often qualifies you for "Time Sensitive" benefits, such as:

  • Pre-existing Condition Waivers: Coverage for medical issues you already have.
  • Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR): An optional upgrade that allows you to cancel for literally any reason and still receive a portion of your money back.

Every policy is different, but most comprehensive plans include:

  • Trip Cancellation/Interruption: Reimburses non-refundable costs if you can't go or have to come home early due to a covered reason (illness, injury, etc.).
  • Travel Delays: Reimburses for meals and hotels if your flight is delayed for a specified amount of time.
  • Medical Emergencies: Covers doctor visits, hospital stays, and emergency transport.
  • Baggage Protection: Reimburses for lost, stolen, or delayed bags.

While some premium credit cards offer travel protection, they are often "secondary" and have lower limits or stricter rules than a dedicated travel insurance policy. We can help you compare the two so you can decide if your current coverage is enough for the specific trip you're taking.
